I extend a warm welcome to you to the website of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kampala. I am ambassador in Uganda since September 2020. Before coming to Uganda I was posted to Khartoum (Sudan) for four years.
The Netherlands has an important, strong and cordial bilateral relationship in Uganda. Our focus has gradually shifted from aid to trade and investment. We work together in several sectors.
In the Food Security sector we support Uganda in making the agricultural sector more competitive and commercial, by increasing agricultural productivity through agro-inputs, processing, market access and infrastructure, agricultural policy, skills development, land tenure, access to finance, agri-business development, (renewable) energy, regional trade and investment promotion. Our support for Security and Rule of Law focuses on non-state actors or state actors working on pluralistic society, human rights, media freedom, accountability and anti-corruption, justice, law and order, including transitional justice, peace and reconciliation, regional security and land justice. Other areas that serve the bilateral development cooperation policy of the embassy include Climate Change, Private Sector Development with a special focus on the youth employment, creating jobs, investment, trade-relations and, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The SRHR work contributes to Uganda's demographic dividend strategy and to health system strengthening for essential services which during the Covid pandemic has all the more increased its relevance. Promoting Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment is at the heart of all our interventions.
Furthermore, we provide a wide scope of consular services to Ugandans, like study or travel to the Netherlands. Detailed information can be found on www.netherlandsandyou.nl. This website also provides information about doing business with the Netherlands.
We would very much like to see the bilateral relationship between Uganda and the Netherlands continue to develop and we hope to contribute to achieveing a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable future for all Ugandans.
