Objectives of SRHR Cluster

To facilitate this, these specific objectives are pursued:
  1. increasing access to SRHR information and comprehensive sexuality education to make safe and informed decisions,
  2. increasing access to SRHR commodities and inclusive, rights-based, quality SRH services  from public and private health facilities,
  3. improving  SGBV prevention and response,
  4. contributing to an enabling social, cultural and political environment. 
The interventions contribute to: reduced maternal mortality, reduced adolescent birth rate, reduced new HIV infection among adolescent girls and young women, reduced unmet need for family planning, decreased number of unsafe abortions, decreased prevalence and impunity to Sexual and Gender Based Violations  (including child marriages).

Bilateral programme

The Netherland’s financing for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Uganda, is through bilateral programme of the Embassy and Central programme. Implementation of activities under these programmes is done in close collaboration with the Government of Uganda, Civil Society and development partners.
Through the bilateral programme, the Netherlands invest over 10million Euros in SRHR annually. Programs supported include:
  • the ANSWER program in West Nile and Acholi subregion, implemented by UNFPA in partnership with Save the Children International, Plan International and Maries Stopes Uganda;
  • the HEREOS program in Eastern and Central Uganda, implemented by Amref in partnership with Mifumi, Cordaid and the International Center for Research on Women;
  • the ACTUATE program, with a nationwide coverage, implemented by DKT international. 
From the central programme, The Netherlands co-finances several International Institutions and activities in Uganda including:
  • the UNFPA supplies programmes;
  • the Global Financing Facility;
  • Amplified Change;
  • Orange Knowledge Programme;
  • the Global Programme to end Child Marriage;
  • Global fund to end Malaria, Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS and;
  • the Civil Society strengthening programme, supporting 26 alliances programmes in Uganda, 5 of which  focus on SRHR and 11 on gender equality.
