About us

Permanent Representation to the Conference on Disarmament

The Kingdom of the Netherlands has a strong tradition of playing an active and creative role in Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation affairs. As delegation, our main task is to represent the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the Geneva-based permanent Conference on Disarmament (CD).

The CD is the primary multilateral forum to negotiate arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, which makes the Geneva the international centre of disarmament diplomacy. The Permanent Representative to the CD is also the Head of Delegation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the First Committee of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The themes we discuss - in and outside of these fora - include Nuclear Disarmament, Biological and Chemical Weapons, Landmines, Cluster Munitions, Small Arms and Light Weapons, Outer Space and matters relating to Emerging Technologies and Cyber. We are always ready to engage with other delegations, international organisations, UN bodies, civil society, representatives from the academic world, and non-governmental organisations.

One Kingdom – Four countries

The Kingdom of the Netherlands consists of four countries, in Europe and in the Caribbean region: the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
