The Protocol and Host Country Affairs Department (DPG)has introduced SmartSearch, a digital tool designed to help diplomatic missions and international organisations quickly find relevant and up-to-date guidance on diplomatic protocol-related matters.

The Protocol Guide for diplomatic missions  and international organisations offers practical information based on the Dutch authorities’ interpretation of rules and regulations that apply to privileged persons in the Netherlands. Topics include identity cards, family members, social security, and fiscal privileges. The guide is continuously updated to reflect changes in policy or procedures and supports the Netherlands’ aim to be a transparent and service-oriented host country. With SmartSearch, users can easily locate relevant content within the Protocol Guide through intuitive, context-based keyword searches, improving accessibility and saving time.

To use the SmartSearch, click on the SmartSearch and enter a keyword or phrase (for example, ‘residence card’ or  ‘schooling’. You are then guided to the exact section of the concerning matter. The SmartSearch makes it easier than ever to find up-to-date answers to practical questions, whether you’re handling staff registration, seeking clarification on privileges, or assisting family members of international staff. The Ministry encourages all members of the diplomatic and international community to consult the Protocol Guide regularly and to explore the SmartSearch tool for improved access.
