Freedom Concert - United States
Freedom Concert
The Netherlands Carillon, a majestic 127-foot-tall bell tower in Arlington, Virginia, stands as a lasting tribute to the United States’ support of the Netherlands during and after World War II.
Overlooking Washington, D.C., this musical monument was a gift from the Netherlands in the 1950s. Today, it serves as a powerful symbol of the deep and enduring bond of friendship and freedom between the two nations.
Each year, the carillon becomes the heart of the Freedom Concert, a special event organized by the National Park Service and the Netherlands embassy. Through music and spoken word, the concert offers a moment to celebrate and reflect on the meaning of freedom.
The 2025 Freedom Concert, held on May 5, marked a significant milestone: “80 years of freedom” — a tribute to the Netherlands’ liberation in World War II.
It was wonderful to see hundreds of guests gather to enjoy an inspiring program of speakers and performers.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to keynote speaker Robert M. Edsel, the Regimental Orchestra "Guards Grenadiers and Rifles," conducted by Captain Anne Z. van den Berg, and vocalist Julia Schutten. A big thank you as well to Sergeant First Class Erik Tue (vocalist) and Colonel Bruce R. Pulver (conductor) of the U.S. Army Band, along with our fantastic carillonneurs: Kevin Lieberman, Liam Flood, Michelle Lam, and Oliver MacDonald.
