Specific information
The catering officer assists the facility officer at the residence to an overall professional appearance during events. The tasks concerns waiter-service, assisting in the kitchen, set-up and post-event clean up. These events take place in the residence as well in other premises like the dpt ambassador’s residence and the embassy. The catering usually takes place outside office hours.
The catering officer is working closely together with the other staff at the residence and is managed by the (deputy) Head of Operational Management (OM).

- The catering officer works mainly in the residence but will be working from different locations depending on the location of the event in dpt ambassador’s residence and embassy.
- The events take place outside office hours and occasionally in the weekend. The average number of the events is between 2 to 3 events per week.
- The catering officer is accountable to the (dpt) Operational Manager of the embassy and the Ambassador for the way in which duties are carried out.

Work environment
The Netherlands Embassy in Washington D.C. represents the affairs of the Government of the Netherlands in the United States of America. The Embassy is located at 4200 Linnean Avenue, with 72,000 square feet of privately owned office space. In addition, the Embassy owns 4 properties among which the residence of the Ambassador. A total of around 100 employees (multi-cultural) work at the Embassy, our residence staff consist of 3 full-time employees.
Our residence staff is part of our department of operational affairs. The other units are: Facilities (including IT), Consular, General affairs and HR. All staff that is working for the Embassy are either diplomats or locally hired staff.

The catering officer has a high integrity profile and is aware of working in a high profile environment. The catering officer ensures a professional appearance of support services for visits and representative functions in the residence.
The catering officer is flexible (this includes the non-standard working hours and occasionally the weekends) and works closely together with the staff at the residence and embassy. Further is the catering officer is at least 21 years of age because of the legal requirement for alcohol service.
Other information
This vacancy concerns a “pilot” for multiple waiters for our events.
This is a fixed monthly salary for a flexible work schedule. The number of working hours per week depends on the events that are planned. In spring and fall, there are on average 2 evening events per week where waiter assistance is needed. However, in winter and summer there are also weeks with no events at all.
The monthly salary is a fixed amount and is paid every month throughout the year. In addition to the monthly salary, you are entitled to the benefits package including an attractive 401(k) plan.
Monthly (fixed) gross salary starts from US$ 904 and this position is offered for a fix term of 1 year, with a probationary period of one month.
