We join America250

On July 4, 2026, the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

America250 offers a moment to reflect on the nation’s history, recognize the many contributions that shaped it, and look ahead to the future. The commemorative period began on Memorial Day 2025 and continues nationwide through July 4, 2026.

The diplomatic network of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the United States is proud to join America250, highlighting a relationship that dates back to 1776, when the Dutch island of St. Eustatius became the first foreign entity to recognize American independence by returning “The First Salute” to the ship Andrew Doria, symbolizing early friendship and shared values.

Through a series of activities, the Embassy and Consulates of the Kingdom of the Netherlands will celebrate this historic bond while engaging with communities across the United States.

Planned activities include "Keukenhof on the Mall," a tulip picking garden inspired by the world famous flower garden in the Netherlands, and a visit by a Dutch naval vessel to the US East Coast as part of Sail 250.

We are also seeking Dutch-American cultural heritage and artistic projects that illuminate Dutch contributions to US independence, highlight the shared history between our two countries, and strengthen the cultural profile of the Netherlands in the United States.

More information will be announced on our social media channels.
