Introducing the Shared Heritage - Ortak Miras, in which four centuries of Dutch-Turkish history are showcased through stories of art, trade, tradition and human connection.

This year we refreshed and updated our popular Shared Heritage - Ortak Miras magazine and to mark the occaision we opened a traveling exhibition at Bıçakçı Han, Izmir, in collaboration with the Municipalities of Izmir and Konak.

The exhibition explores the many connections and celebrated shared heritage between the Netherlands and Turkiye through a wide range of stories and symbols. From Delft Blue tiles in Istanbul and the Turkish origins of the Dutch Santa Claus (Sinterklaas) to Ottoman tulips, and Turkish-Dutch artists such as Karsu. A highlight is the Bergama Carpet featured in Pieter de Hooch’s 17th-century painting, brought to life through the Timeless Muses project, and exhibited for the first time as a tangible bridge between past and present.

Reflecting the shared values that underpin Turkish–Dutch relations, the exhibition also shows moments of solidarity, including disaster relief efforts and the significance of Turkish labour migration in Dutch society.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Municipalities of Izmir and Konak, content creator Wolter Braamhorst and designer Melisa Tez, and all those involved in making this exhibition possible.
