Humanitarian and Human Rights - South Sudan

Humanitarian and Human Rights

The Netherlands aims to consolidate peace by supporting a more peaceful and inclusive society with respect for human rights improving the civic space and freedom of expression, leading to a diverse and vibrant public debate. The Netherlands supports media outlets in South Sudan to operate objectively and journalists can do their work in safety. Human Rights Defenders can advocate for human rights in safety and can access emergency protection mechanisms.

The Netherlands also supports the improvement of  Human Security and wellbeing due to a reduction in violence and landmine related incidents. Social cohesion in and between communities in selected areas is therefore strengthened, through dialogue with formal and non-formal leadership. We also support South Sudan in finalizing its Security Sector Reform and Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration programming.
