As an Operational Manager (OM) you manage and are responsible for the work of the General Affairs department. The job covers a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

In General Affairs, the OM is in charge of office management: this includes financial affairs (including invoice payments and payroll management), operational matters such as facility management, housing, maintenance of chancellery and residence, contract management and everyday IT support, as well as managing the General Affairs Assistant, cleaner, security guard, and residence staff.

The OM cooperates and networks with a wide variety of stakeholders, including relevant South African authorities, suppliers, lessors, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its various departments, the Netherlands Embassy in Pretoria and other consulates accredited to South Africa.

The OM is a member of the management team (MT) with the Consul-General and the Deputy and advises on their areas of responsibility as well as acting as a sparring partner for other areas. The OM reports to the Consul-General. 

The working language is English, therefor a high English proficiency is required.

TYPE OF EMPLOYEE

In view of the wide variety of responsibilities, the successful candidate must have strong planning, coordination, communication, and people skills, as well as being cost-conscious and detail-oriented. They must also have an affinity for and an ability to master rules and procedures. They should possess plenty of initiative, problem-solving ability and independence in bringing tasks to completion. Strong result-oriented and go-getting mentality is a must. 

As a member of the MT, the successful candidate must also have an eye for the general interest of the Consulate-General and its staff. 

As a representative of the Netherlands and its Consulate-General, they must have strong representational skills, a client-focused and friendly communication style and a strong sense of integrity.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The team of the Netherlands Consulate-General in Cape Town consists of 11 employees. There are a cleaner and security guard at the office. The Consulate-General is housed in a historical and charming building in the center of Cape Town.
