Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel: Interactive Dialogue on the Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and in Israel
Statement of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, delivered by H.E. Ambassador Lars Tummers, Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
Thank you, Mr. President,
We thank the members of the
Commission of Inquiry for their presentation and take note of the
report on killings and acts causing bodily and mental harm by
non-State actors in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel.
The report of the COI paints a disheartening picture of the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Regarding Gaza the Kingdom of the Netherlands reiterates its call for the full implementation by all parties of the ceasefire and all other provisions of UNSCR 2803. Hamas and other non-state armed groups must disarm. Innocent civilians have become victims of violence and executions by these groups. This is unacceptable, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands continues to look for ways to sanction those involved. We reiterate that Hamas and other non-state armed groups cannot play a role in the future governance of Gaza.
The report also demonstrates that settler violence in the West Bank has become an everyday reality. Settlements and their expansion contravene international law. We call on Israel to end its expansion of settlements, ensure accountability for settler violence, including to investigate allegations against Israeli forces. The Kingdom of the Netherlands continues to work on sanctions against violent settlers. We oppose those who argue for annexation and forcible displacement of the Palestinian population.
Thank you.
