Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) - Interactive Dialogue with the Independent Expert on SOGI
Thank you Madame Vice President, The Kingdom of the Netherlands aligns itself with the EU statement and the ERC statement and thanks the Independent Expert for his update. We warmly welcome the latest report of the Independent Expert. The Kingdom of the Netherlands remains concerned about the global backlash against the equal enjoyment of human rights for LGBTIQ+-persons, especially in relation to their forced disappearance, as these persons are disproportionately affected by drivers of displacement such as conflict, repression and persecution. Protecting and ensuring equal rights for LGBTIQ+-persons remains one of our priorities. This is particularly relevant when these persons are forcefully displaced and seek asylum. In such cases, it is essential to guarantee access to basic necessities and promote full integration into their new communities, in collaboration with LGBTIQ+-organizations. Mr. Independent Expert, What accountability mechanisms do you recommend to address cases where authorities are responsible for the abuse of forcibly displaced LGBTIQ+-persons, as you highlight in recommendation 88 (d) of your report? I thank you.
