Statement of the Kingdom of the Netherlands delivered by Ms. Simone van der Post, Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN in Geneva

Thank you Mr. President,

The Kingdom of the Netherlands aligns itself with the EU statement and thanks the OHCHR Fact-Finding Mission as well as the team of international experts for their work and their reports.

We are shocked by the report documenting severe human rights violations committed by all parties to the conflict.

We are also deeply concerned about the persistent lack of accountability for human rights violations, in particular for conflict-related sexual violence. The international community must remain united in ensuring accountability for victims and survivors. This must be embedded in ongoing peace processes. The renewed investigation by the International Criminal Court and its efforts to support domestic accountability institutions also play a crucial role in this regard.

We urge the members of this Council to support accountability efforts, also financially. We call on all UN Member States to ensure that OHCHR is sufficiently funded to implement activities mandated by the Council, including those pertaining to the DRC.

Mr. President, what further measures can be taken to bring justice to the countless victims and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, and to hold the perpetrators of these serious violations to account?
