NL-UK Joint Diplomatic Programme on 29 and 30 January
On 29 and 30 January the annual Joint Diplomatic Programme took place. This exchange programme is a joint initiative of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Europe Department. The programme, which switches between London and The Hague each year, is intended to strengthen ties between young diplomats and maintain the close collaboration between our two countries.
30 young diplomats took part this year, 15 from the Netherlands and 15 from the United Kingdom. A content-rich, varied programme was put together for them, covering a range of themes.
One section focused on the Netherlands’ host country policy. Director of Protocol Gabriella Sancisi gave a presentation on the Protocol and Host Country Affairs Department's (DPG) tasks and responsibilities, the dilemmas DPG staff face on a daily basis and the influence of geopolitics on their work. She illustrated this with a number of examples drawn from recent world events.
The Joint Diplomatic Programme represented a valuable opportunity to highlight the work of the Protocol and Host Country Affairs Department within an effectively planned programme.
