On Thursday 25 September the diplomatic corps’ annual working visit took place. These visits are an opportunity for ambassadors based in the Netherlands get to know one of the country’s provinces. This year the host province was Zeeland.

The first stop was the artificial island Neeltje Jans, where the ambassadors were welcomed by Hugo de Jonge, the King’s Commissioner in the province of Zeeland. Presentations were given by various companies active in Zeeland, including Yara Sluiskil, Damen Naval and Thorizon, and about the New Lock in Terneuzen.

The morning programme was followed by lunch at the provincial offices in Middelburg, prepared by head chef Jeroen Tanis and his team from Restaurant Domburg. The ambassadors were joined for lunch by representatives of Zeeland-based firms including Krijn Verwijs, The Kingfish Company, Meatless, Smart Delta Resources, Pure Blue Water, VAM WaterTech, North Sea Port and Van de Bilt Seeds and Flax.

In the afternoon, the ambassadors enjoyed a guided canal tour of Middelburg. The programme concluded with a networking reception offering more opportunities for interaction with business representatives.

The day was a great success, focusing on getting to know Zeeland, knowledge sharing and networking. We would like to thank the province of Zeeland for the warm welcome we received and all the ambassadors for attending.
