Mr. Taouati joined the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in October 2002, to start his career with a traineeship for Dutch diplomats. He fulfilled short terms, amongst others, as policy officer at the European Integration Department in The Hague, the Netherlands Permanent Delegation to the OECD in Paris, as Turkey desk officer at the Europe Department in The Hague and was involved in the Netherlands EU-Presidency in 2004. In 2013, he was seconded at the French Foreign Office in Paris.
