The work of the Consulate-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Shanghai focuses on the fostering of economic relations, trade promotion and consular support in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui. The consulate’s economic cluster consists of the economic affairs department (EA), the innovation department (IA), and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA).

The economic affairs department promotes the Dutch top sectors and supports Dutch businesses, of which there are around 500-600 active in the Yangtze River Delta region. It follows and reports on relevant trends, developments and opportunities, maintains a network of relevant Chinese and Dutch stakeholders, and organizes and plans activities such as webinars, trade missions, seminars, participation in fairs and public diplomacy events.

The innovation department is part of the Netherlands Innovation Network (Innovatie Attaché Netwerk in Dutch) that operates in multiple countries with a strong innovation capacity and potential. The network aims to improve the innovation capabilities of the Netherlands by linking global and Dutch innovation networks. The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency helps and advises foreign companies in all phases of establishing, rolling out and/or expanding their international activities in the Netherlands. NFIA connects international companies with its regional partners in the Invest in Holland Network and resources and tools they need to make their investment decision. NFIA’s services include organizing fact-finding missions; arranging meetings with relevant partners; and providing personalized guidance and counsel on tax, government, labor and permit procedures, location options and business solutions.
