From The Hague to Santiago: A New Chapter
After a year at the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport, I’m thrilled to begin a new journey at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Santiago as part of the "Rijkstraineeship", a program for high potentials in the Dutch government to further grow. My academic path in Cultural Anthropology and International Development has long been intertwined with Latin America—my thesis explored Colombia’s coal policy and the complexities of energy transition. Now, I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to the region and contribute to Dutch-Chilean collaboration on mining and sustainability.
Over the coming months, I’ll be focusing on water scarcity and pollution in Chile’s lithium and copper industries—critical sectors in a country already facing water stress. My research will explore how Dutch expertise in water management can help address these challenges and support sustainable practices in the critical minerals sector.
What excites me most is the chance to work with people from diverse backgrounds. The Embassy is a vibrant hub of international exchange, and I look forward to learning from colleagues and partners both inside and outside the office. I’m also eager to improve my Spanish, immerse myself in Chilean culture, and explore the country’s stunning landscapes—from the Andes to Patagonia.
Outside of work, you’ll find me dancing bachata, experimenting with my mini vegetable garden (perhaps with some new Chilean varieties!), and trying out new sports. And yes, I’m already dreaming of Chilean cuisine and wildlife sightings.
Here’s to a season of learning, collaboration, and adventure!
