Dutch companies shine at Expomin 2025
The embassy reflects on a successful participation in Expomin 2025! 12 companies shared an ‘NL Lounge’ at the most important mining fair of Latin America, that welcomed a startling 85,000 visitors over the course of 4 days. The companies that participated, represented Dutch solutions in engineering, water treatment, tubing, operational efficiency, human resources and geo-exploration.
Jeromy Snel, Optecs: “Our company specializes in advanced control systems, supported by artificial intelligence. I think the fair is very interesting and frankly, I am surprised how big Expomin is, which is a reflection of the size and importance of the mining sector in Chile”
Projecting the mining sector as a whole, the Expomin organizing committee had taken measures to realize the event in a carbon neutral way, according to the standards of the Chilean ministry of the Environment. Also, the congress was organized with more attention to gender parity, reaching 49% representation of women on stage.
The 12 Dutch companies that participated had all filled
in a Responsible Business Conduct risk checker (LINK: Home | MVO
Risico Checker) before coming to Chile and discussed the outcomes
with the embassy. Thus, they could reflect beforehand on the
potential risks of doing business in the Chilean mining sector, such
as the country’s high level of water stress and existing frictions
with local communities. Also, companies shared about their own
supply chains and how they work to warrant that their products and
services are realized with respect for people and planet. Having
done this ‘homework’, we can confidently say that Dutch solutions
are underpinning the sustainability ambitions of the Chilean mining sector.
As to the grading of their experience at Expomin the companies’ evaluations are still coming in, but so far the general appreciation of the fair lies at a solid 8 out of 10 – good news for both countries!
