Ocker Gevaerts

Honorary consul in Valparaíso

The regions I represent are: the provinces of Chañaral, Copiapó, Huasco, Elqui, Limarí, Choapa, Petorca, Los Andes, San Felipe, Quillota, Valparaíso, San Antonio, and Marga Marga.

My Tasks as Honorary Consul

  • Assisting Dutch citizens with passport applications.

  • Supporting Dutch nationals deprived of liberty.

  • Guidance in obtaining visas for tourists who require them.

  • Participation in activities that promote opportunities for mutual benefit.

My first time in Chile was in 1986, during a vacation while I was living in Brazil. In 1997, I moved to Viña del Mar from Naarden, in the Netherlands, together with my then‑Chilean wife and our two daughters.

In 2004, I succeeded Jorge Puiggros as Honorary Consul of the Netherlands for the IV and V Regions.

Over more than 20 years in this role, I have not only had the privilege of proudly serving and representing my country abroad, but also of maintaining a lasting connection with the Netherlands—its people, its culture, and its traditions.

I have also built strong friendships within the consular corps, the oldest in Latin America, with more than 200 years of history.
