Je hebt een adapter voor het stopcontact nodig om je elektrische apparaten te kunnen gebruiken. In alle Canadese provincies is de standaardspanning 120 V (soms ook wel 110 V genoemd) en 60 Hz. Canadese stopcontacten zijn van Type B en zijn daarom niet geschikt voor Europese stekkers.

Tijdens je verblijf hier

Begrijp dat iedereen in Canada onder de Canadese wet valt, ongeacht nationaliteit.

• Buitenlandse bezoekers zijn niet vrijgesteld van Canadese drugswetgeving. Het bezit van verdovende middelen is illegaal in Canada onder de Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Deze wet geldt voor burgers, inwoners en toeristen. Wordt je als bezoeker in Canada aangehouden voor een drugsdelict, dan word je via het Canadese strafrecht afgehandeld en kan je strafrechtelijk worden vervolgd.
• De wettelijke minimumleeftijd om alcohol te kopen en te drinken is 19 jaar in zowel Ontario als British Columbia. Bij twijfel over iemands leeftijd is een geldig, door de overheid uitgegeven identiteitsbewijs met foto vereist.
• Een paspoort is het meest betrouwbare identiteitsbewijs voor bezoekers. Nederlandse reizigers wordt aangeraden hun paspoort of EU-identiteitskaart mee te nemen naar bars, restaurants of bij de aankoop van alcohol in een winkel.
   

Wat te doen in geval van nood 

Het is de verantwoordelijkheid van lokale autoriteiten om het Nederlandse Consulaat te informeren over incidenten waarbij Nederlanders betrokken zijn.

Melding aan een consulaat is verplicht bij arrestatie of detentie van een buitenlandse staatsburger, inclusief Nederlanders. In andere gevallen kan er ook een consulaire melding worden gedaan, bijvoorbeeld in het geval van overlijden en ernstige incidenten met minderjarigen of personen die speciale zorg nodig hebben.

Als er iets gebeurt of als je ergens bij betrokken raakt, neem dan contact op met de lokale autoriteiten.

Traveling to Canada for the FIFA World Cup 2026

If you are a Dutch national and are planning to travel to Canada (Toronto, Ontario or Vancouver, British Columbia) for the FIFA World Cup, please consult this page for useful information about what you need to do before you travel, and what to know while you are in the country.

Download the NederlandWereldwijd Reisapp onto your mobile phone or tablet.

You will need a plug adapter or converter in order to use your electrical appliances. In all Canadian provinces the standard voltage is 120 V (sometimes referred to as 110 V) and 60 Hz. Canadian electrical sockets are Type B, and therefore are not compatible with European plugs.

When you are here

Understand that everyone in Canada is subject to Canadian law, regardless of nationality. 

• Foreign visitors do not have any special exemption from Canadian drug laws. Possession of controlled substances is illegal in Canada under the federal Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The law applies to citizens, residents, and tourists alike. If a visitor is arrested for a drug offence while in Canada, they are processed through the Canadian criminal justice system and can face criminal charges.
• Understand that the legal drinking age in both Ontario and British Columbia is 19. In both provinces, if there is any doubt as to a person’s age, a valid, government-issued photo ID is required. 
• A passport is the most reliable form of ID for visitors. Dutch visitors should carry their passport or EU identity card when going to bars, restaurants, or buying alcohol at a store.

What to do in the event of an incident 

It is the responsibility of local authorities to inform consulates about incidents involving foreign nationals.

Consular notification is required in cases of arrest or detention of a foreign national. Consular notification should take place in other circumstances including, but not limited to: death, and serious incidents involving minors or individuals requiring special assistance.
