Career

Mauritz joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1998 and served in lower ranks in Zagreb, Brussels (EU) and at headquarters in The Hague.

Born to a Brazilian mother and a Dutch father, Mauritz grew up in Eindhoven. He is a fan of PSV Eindhoven and is an avid soccer player himself. Mauritz has a passion for languages and enjoys travelling. On his piano, which he got from his parents as a 10-year-old and has travelled the world with him, he likes to play Brazilian bossa nova tunes and French chansons. Mauritz is married to Roza, who originates from the former Yugoslavia. They have three teenage kids. At the Verheijden family kitchen table, four languages are spoken: Dutch, Portuguese, Macedonian and English.
