About PROSPECTS

PROSPECTS is a long-term international programme and partnership, funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, to improve the lives of refugees and other forcibly displaced people.

It brings together five big international organisations: UNHCR, UNICEF, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

PROSPECTS focuses on refugees, other people forced to flee their homes, and the communities that host them.

PROSPECTS focuses on four areas:

  • Legal and social protection;
  • Education and skills;
  • Jobs and economic opportunities;
  • Basic services such as water, sanitation, housing and digital connectivity.

Through PROSPECTS, the Dutch government supports long-term solutions for refugees and host communities, in addition to emergency aid. The partnership helps host governments to include refugees in their own systems for education, social protection and work. It also involves development banks and the private sector to support job creation and local businesses. This helps people become more self-reliant, reduces dependence on aid and supports local economies. In this way, PROSPECTS also contributes to social cohesion and stability in regions that host many displaced people.
