Culture and People-to-People

The cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands goes beyond trade and investment as we are close partners in creative industries, art and culture, to embrace and celebrate creativity, diversity and equal rights and love for all.

The World Press Photo exhibition connects people with stories that matter around the world. The first exhibition in 2018 made a special impact amongst professional photo-journalists as well as photographers and young people active in arts and creative industry. In 2019 and 2020, the ‘World Press Photo 2019’ and the ‘World Press Photo - Best of Three 2018-2020’ exhibitions took place on the side-walk of Hoan Kiem lake, the heart of Hanoi, with thousands of visitors. Especially the pandemic time, when people are not able to travel, this meaningful photo exhibition contributes to bring the world closer to Vietnam, and at the same time, enrich the agenda of Hanoi being the UNESCO’s Global Network of Creative cities.

2. Equal rights and love for all

Viet Pride in Ho Chi Minh City and the Hanoi Pride

The Netherlands supports equal rights and love for all, especially for the LGBITQ+ community. In 2019, the diplomatic network and Dutch community in Vietnam wholeheartedly joined the Viet Pride in Ho Chi Minh City and the Hanoi Pride to celebrate the pride spirit.

During the Hanoi International Queer Film Festival in 2019, the audiences could have a chance to share the emotion, pains and thoughts with the transgender people in the movie M/F/X from Koen Suidgeest. The documentary movie echoed with the theme of the festival: ‘Hay yeu nhau di’ (‘Let’s fall in love’) which is from a song that refers to a world made out of love, empathy and inclusion. In prior to the screening of the movie, the touching Preferred Pronouns exhibition took place presenting the photographs of the transgender characters in the M/F/X movie.
