Planet Soil is an innovative Dutch documentary about soil life. The embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Bertha DocHouse presented the first screening of Planet Soil in the United Kingdom on 16 January, followed by a Q&A with director Mark Verkerk in moderation with our Agricultural Counsellor Philip de Jong.

Planet Soil shows us what lives under our feet, in the soil. The soil ecosystem, containing plants and all kinds of other life such as insects, fungi and micro-organisms, is highly interwoven and essential for all life on earth. Specially captured imagery illustrates how underground life is always on the move. Furthermore, the film explains the opportunities of sustainable soil management for preserving and improving biodiversity, combating climate change and, last but not least, growing healthy food.

Planet Soil was the most visited Dutch documentary of 2023. The screening was attended to by representatives of our network of the UK farming community, government authorities, EU colleagues, NGOs and (research) experts in sustainable soil management, regenerative farming and nature conservation.
