Vacancy: Honorary Consul in Guernsey

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the United Kingdom is looking for an Honorary Consul in Guernsey.

Due to the end of the mandate of the current Honorary Consul, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is looking for an Honorary Consul in Guernsey and its surroundings, the Channel Islands. Interested candidates should send an e-mail before May 1st 2026, containing a short motivation and a CV to lon-ea@minbuza.nl, for the attention of Sophie Kramer.


The Honorary Consul represents the interests of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in its region and is responsible to the Dutch Embassy in London. The general provisions concerning the prerogatives, privileges and immunities of an Honorary Consul are defined in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The function of Honorary Consul is not remunerated, apart from an annual lump sum. 


The integrity of the candidate is very important for this position. The Honorary Consul must demonstrate exemplary behavior and ensure that he/she does not place him/herself in a position of conflict of interest with his/her other professional or business interests. The Honorary Consul is appointed for a maximum period of 5 years, with the possibility of renewal for a further period of 5 years. 


He/she will have the following tasks:

  • Representing the Netherlands at official activities and ceremonies of the authorities and the Consular Corps
  • Promoting economic interests and Dutch-Anglo cooperation in key sectors   
  • Ensuring the protection of Dutch nationals, especially in emergency situations
  • Accompanying official visits, as well as tasks in the field of science, education, culture and information.


He/she has the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Have a broad network in local and regional society, especially in the business world
  • Have a good knowledge of his/her region and of the economic and political actors 
  • Have a thorough understanding of the economic dynamics of the territory 
  • Ability to maintain relations with the administrative and political authorities, for a quick contact in case of need for the services of the Embassy in London
  • Have his/her own sources of income (be financially independent)
  • Fluent in English
  • Preferably have concrete links or affinities with the Netherlands.
