Cultural Collaboration Projects Spring-Summer 2025

News item | 12-05-2025 | 11:00

This spring and summer we have many exciting activities throughout Türkiye to share:

MUSIC: Dutch early music ensemble Camerata Trajectina bring their unique combination of historical music and narratives to Turkiye with performances at the St Antuan Kilisi in Istanbul and masterclasses at the conservatorium, whilst classical guitarist Irina Kulikova takes her talent to the ODTU International Classical Guitar Festival in Ankara. As the spring rolls into summer, the open-air festivals arrive. This year, Dutch Indie act (best newcomers 3FM Awards) WIES, will bring their music to three stages in Ankara, Izmir and Istanbul as part of the lineup for Sound of Europe. Weekend Classics concerts (part of the IKSV Istanbul Music Festival) will showcase Dutch Acts ‘the Preda Brothers’ and ‘the Netherlands Saxophone Octet’. The ‘Daan Schreuder Trio’ will perform at Ankara and Bodrum Jazz Festivals with various Dutch artists appearing at the Istanbul Jazz festival too.

CULTURAL FORUMS AND EXHIBITIONS: This year, the Netherlands is the host country of Istanbul Modern’s “Museums Talk” lecture series and sees Sjarel Ex (former director of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam) kicking of this special series on May the 14th with “Depot”, a documentary on the making of Boijmans unique publicly accessible art storage, being screened before the lecture. On May 27th, this lecture series continues with Rein Wolfs of the Stedelijk Museum coming to Istanbul to share his experiences. May also sees acclaimed Dutch visual artist and musician, Boris Acket, bring his eye-catching, innovative art to Mercado Design Days (16th-18th May).

THEATRE: The Antalya International Theatre Festival brings Schërzo: Släpstick to Turkiye. In this idiosyncratic, whirling and hilarious take on classical music, nothing is what it seems. The five musical all-rounders take the public on a crazy trip through the masterpieces of Rossini, Brahms, Saint-Saëns, Gershwin and many other illustrious composers. In an inimitable way, the quintet plays the great classics and in the meantime, comedy heroes such as Victor Borge, Mini & Maxi, Danny Kaye and Charlie Chaplin are honored. Throughout Turkiye, we continue to bring Netherlands literature to the stage through children’s theatre performances in many rural and urban locations. This year, Karina Schaapman’s ‘Mouse Mansion’ is one of the adventures coming to life as a stage production.

FILM: Our commitment to the media of film goes on, with thought-provoking films being screened during both the Kundura Doc Lab activities in May and June, the 13th Accessible Film Festival and the ‘Documentarist’ Istanbul Documentary Days Festival in mid-June. At the European Cinema Days, Dutch Film 'Jippie No More!' will be shown at various locations.
