The Netherlands is a longstanding partner of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and reaffirms its commitment to this partnership for the years ahead. For more than two decades, the Netherlands has supported development in the eastern provinces in the areas of health, food security, water management, as well as justice, peace and security, notably through its regional Great Lakes Programme.

With an annual budget of over 25 million euros until 2026, this program aimed to contribute to stability and peace by addressing the root causes of conflicts and mitigating their effects on local communities, as well as stimulating regional cooperation and trade.

This video, produced by Radio La Benevolencija on assignment of the Embassy of the Netherlands in the DRC, highlights several interventions and results achieved by the Great Lakes Program under the Rule of Law and Security pillar.

Today, the partnership between the DRC and the Netherlands is evolving towards a relationship increasingly grounded in economic cooperation, trade and investment – reflecting a mature and equal partnership built on mutual interests and shared benefits. Guided by the principle of leaving no one behind, the Netherlands will continue to play a strong humanitarian role in support of those most in need.
