The Netherlands focusses on general bilateral diplomatic relations, political affairs, human rights, with a special focus on media, gender and youth. Political developments in Tanzania are monitored by the Netherlands, and at the same time aims to contribute to positive democratic governance developments.

The Netherlands supports freedom of expression and media by supporting programs like Young Female Journalists Academy ran by Tanzania Bora Initiative (TBI). In its interventions, the Netherlands looks at the role and emancipation of women and support to human rights organizations like Empower Society Transform Lives (ESTL) which works to fight FGM in Singida region.

Women in leadership are supported by the Netherlands by working with organization for example Doyenne through its 'Niongeze Fellowship which trains University student leaders. Democratic practices are promoted by the Netherland by supporting youth political dialogues organized by the Tanzania Center for Democracy (TCD).  Also, the Netherlands supports youth participation in topics such as climate change.

The Netherlands monitors peace and security related developments in the country and region, and engages with relevant stakeholders like the government and organizations like Global Peace Foundation. The Netherlands continues promoting gender equality, women empowerment and youth participation in democratic processes.
