A. Basic information
The Netherlands is a world leader in science, technology and innovation, ranks high in the global competitiveness index and has the ambition to be a top-5 global knowledge economy. To ensure and foster its global position as an innovation leader and to strengthen its global competitiveness, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs has established the Netherlands Innovation Network: a global Network for Innovation, Science and Technology, located in 15 countries world-wide.
The Netherlands Innovation Network stimulates international cooperation between companies, research institutes and public authorities in the fields of innovation, technology and science with a focus on the Dutch National Technology Strategy. The network's activities help implement the international knowledge and innovation agenda of the Dutch government. We address national and global challenges, aiming to further develop key enabling technologies through international cooperation and a worldwide network of offices.
We develop international cooperation by:
providing knowledge and information on the latest innovation,
technology and science developments around the world;
• connecting
to potential partners abroad;
• organizing innovation missions,
seminars, workshops and matchmaking events abroad;
• identifying
funding mechanisms for bi- and multilateral cooperation.
Due to child care leave of one of its employees, the Netherlands
Embassy in Seoul seeks for an officer for Innovation, Technology and
Science to strengthen its innovation department for a period of one
year. Starting date is March 15, 2026. This person will work under
supervision of the Head of Innovation Technology and Science in the
Economic Cluster of the Embassy.
B. Tasks and expected results
Description of tasks:
Organisation of Incoming/Outgoing Missions
- Plan and organize incoming and outgoing missions in specific sectors (mainly semiconductor, AI and quantum)
- Take care of all logistics aspects (accommodation, transportations, social events)
- Collaborate with Korean and Dutch stakeholders involved in the organisation (internal as well as external)
- Information-gathering, research and reporting:
- pro-actively scan relevant media and publications, and visit events and fairs in order to obtain information on the latest interesting innovation-related developments;
- research and analyze developments in various technological and R&D sectors in Korea for the use of the Netherlands Innovation Network and for own reporting purposes, with a focus on the technology-priorities as defined by the Dutch top sector policy and the central Office for the Netherlands Innovation Network;
- write news items in English about these developments and disseminate these items and other technology related information, via the websites of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and the embassy, via Linkedin and other social media;
- research and report on market entry possibilities for Dutch technology-related companies and their products in the Korean market.
Questions and network
- answer Korean technology-related questions from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), other Dutch governmental agencies, R&D institutes, universities and high-tech companies;
- answer Dutch technology-related questions from Korean ministries, government agencies, R&D institutes, universities and high-tech companies.
- expand the network with relevant contacts, including government agencies, high-tech companies, R&D institutes and universities.
- Cooperation and matchmaking:
- liaise between Korean and Dutch governmental organizations
- promote and stimulate R&D cooperation between Dutch and Korean institutes and companies;
- assist Dutch companies in finding a partner in Korea.
Others
- give ad hoc technology-related assistance to the Economic and other sections of the embassy;
- contribute to an enabling working environment through a positive working attitude and pleasant and cooperative behaviour;
- promote Dutch technology towards Korean general public.
C. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Short description of the embassy:
The embassy currently employs
ten expatriate staff and 20 locally recruited staff, of which 14 are
working in the economic cluster. The embassy located in the Jung-gu
district in Seoul. It is supported in the South by our Honorary consul
in Busan.
D. Requirements for the job
Knowledge and experience:
- major in an engineering-field combined with an interest in economics;
- five years working experience in an international environment;
- network in science and technology related organizations;
- excellent knowledge of both Korean and English.
