AI is becoming an increasingly relevant element of foreign and security policy, and these challenges cannot be addressed by any one country alone. The Netherlands is therefore developing an international AI strategy by engaging with key partners, to strengthen multilateral cooperation and shape global norms.

This week, we were pleased to welcome our Ambassador-at-Large for AI, H.E. Harry Verweij, for a series of meetings in Singapore with his counterparts and key experts.

Singapore and the Netherlands enjoy a strong friendship, built over decades of cooperation and mutual trust. As a frontrunner in AI adoption and governance and a valued partner in initiatives such as REAIM (Responsible AI in the Military domain), Singapore offers valuable insights.

Through meetings with policymakers from IMDA, Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore, and Ministry of Defence of Singapore (MINDEF), as well as experts from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY School), S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and AI Singapore, we are exchanging perspectives, and exploring opportunities to further advance this important work together.
