The ports of Rotterdam and Singapore are amongst the busiest and biggest in the world. Given the similarities in terms of size and scale, how should we balance trade facilitation with the safeguarding of our supply chain security?

The Customs administrations of both Singapore and the Netherlands play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth, secure, and efficient movement of goods across our borders.

Last week, Ambassador Anneke Adema and Mr. Mostafa Amini, the Dutch Customs Counselor for Southeast Asia, convened a roundtable meeting at the Netherlands Residence bringing together key stakeholders from the Ministry of Finance, Singapore Customs, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), and the Home Team Science & Technology Agency (HTX).

The stakeholders reflected on the lessons learned over the past decade of cooperation, the empowerment of individuals at all levels in leadership, and the shared values and like-mindedness between Singapore and the Netherlands. They also reaffirmed the continued commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial partnership between both sides.

We look forward to continuing our close cooperation in the coming years.
