Temporary Senior Economic and Trade Officer – Serbia & Montenegro

The economic cluster of the Dutch Embassy in Belgrade consists of a Senior Economic and Trade Officer and an Agricultural Adviser. The cluster focuses on strengthening the international position of Dutch businesses in Serbia and Montenegro.

The Senior Economic and Trade Officer has two main responsibilities:


1.    Facilitating and enhancing trade relations between the Netherlands and Serbia (and to a lesser extent with Montenegro);
2.    Reporting on broader (macro)economic developments in Serbia and Montenegro, particularly in the context of the EU integration process.


Roles and Responsibilities


Trade Promotion and Support

 

  • Support Dutch companies doing business in Serbia and Montenegro by:
  • Identifying business opportunities and potential obstacles;
  • Responding to trade-related inquiries;
  • Engaging in lobbying and advocacy;
  • Hands-on assisting with incoming and outgoing trade missions; and
  • Supporting participation in trade fairs and networking events
  • Strengthen the visibility and public profile of the Netherlands in economic matters by working with key Dutch stakeholders and managing available economic diplomacy funds (e.g. NL branding)
  • Build and maintain a strong and high-impact network within the business community and relevant government agencies in the Netherlands, Serbia, and Montenegro


Economic Advice and Analysis


•    Provide ad hoc briefings, including speaking notes, interviews, and presentations
•    Monitor and analyse the business climate in Serbia and Montenegro
•    Report on developments in key economic sectors relevant to Dutch businesses
•    Provide policy analysis and reporting on broader macroeconomic trends and government policies, with a particular focus on cross-cutting issues related to EU accession


Job Requirements


Key Experience and Knowledge


•    Graduate-level degree in (macro)economics, business studies or a related field
•    At least five years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an international environment
•    Strong knowledge of the (macro)economic and business landscape, including the regulatory framework, in Serbia and Montenegro
•    Well-established network in the relevant sectors, including Serbian and Montenegrin officials, private sector actors, and relevant civil society organisations
•    Familiarity with the Netherlands, the Dutch economy, and Dutch business culture
•    Fluency in English and Serbian (both spoken and written); knowledge of Dutch is an asset

Terms of Employment


•    Work week: 37.5 hours
•    Contract duration: temporary post covering 12 months. We offer a competitive remuneration in an international environment.
•    Starting date: 1 December 2025 (some flexibility possible)

Working Environment

  • You will become part of a diverse embassy team of around 20 people and be working in our open-plan office in New Belgrade. Between work, we relax with various activities, such as a shared lunch, table tennis, a yoga session on Monday afternoons and in the winter season: training for the Belgrade Marathon.
