Ambassador Ard van der Vorst joined the Kāpiti community to open Home4all in Waikanae, a Dutch-style ‘care farm’ offering a welcoming, farm-like home for people living with dementia.

A warm new home for people with dementia

Against the backdrop of disturbing events around the world, making space for positive initiatives feels like a breath of fresh air.

In the coastal town of Waikanae, Ambassador Ard van der Vorst joined Mayor Janet Holborow and the vibrant Kāpiti community to celebrate the opening of Home4all: a place designed to bring comfort and dignity to people living with dementia.

Home4all is inspired by the Dutch zorgboerderij (“care farm”) concept, where a rural, farm-like setting combines professional care with the calming rhythms of nature.

The celebration was a true community effort. Local volunteers, neighbours, and supporters came together to mark the occasion, reflecting the spirit of compassion and cooperation that defines the project.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to Marian Weststrate, Jan Weststrate and their inspirational teams for all their hard work.
