Dutch delegates for the Model UN - New Zealand
Dutch delegates for the Model UN
The Model UN is a four day conference in Wellington, organized by UN Youth New Zealand. High school students represent 'their' country in commissions and during debates, in a simulation of an official United Nations summit.
Dutch delegates for the Model UN
This week, UN Youth New Zealand organized a Model UN in Wellington. High schoolers from all around Aoteoroa New Zealand came to Wellington to attend this inspiring event. During this event, they will represent a country and its policy as they try to find solutions for international problems. An incredibly interesting experience, which teaches them to defend or have to debate views that do not align with their own.
We were very happy to host the three delegates who are representing the Kingdom of the Netherlands this year. During the MUN, they will represent the Dutch point of view on topics as diverse as water management, gender-based violence, and climate change.
We shared some interesting facts with them. For example, do 𝑦𝘰𝑢 know what the largest port in Europe is? Or which place the Netherlands occupies in the list of the largest agricultural exporters? (The answers: the port of Rotterdam, and second place)
We discussed the Netherlands’ foreign policy in international cooperation and talked about how challenging and rewarding it can be to work together with so many different opinions.
During the opening of the MUN, we were reminded of this and of our own ambitions when we chose an international career. It is a privilege to work with other cultures towards international goals. We wish all delegates good luck with this as they get to experience how multilateral diplomacy works.
