Exciting times for the Lithuanian Navy! The new H-24 tugboat, named "Lokys" was officially inaugurated at Klaipėda Cruise Terminal. For the first time in independent Lithuania's history, the Navy has a brand new ship tailored to their needs. This 30-meter tugboat, built by the Dutch company Damen, will be a game-changer for port operations with capabilities like towing, rescue, pollution control, firefighting, and maritime security.

Ilona Vaitkuvienė, wife of the Mayor of Klaipėda, had the priviledge of becoming the godmother of the Navy's new tugboat. In true maritime tradition, she smashed a bottle of champagne against the ship's side, officially christening it "Lokys." This name honours its predecessor, which also bore the same name. The original "Lokys" was a Danish-donated harbour boat which had been serving in the Lithuanian Armed Forces from 1997 to 2012. By naming the new vessel "Lokys" the Navy celebrates its legacy of strength and service, while ushering in a new chapter of power and resilience.
