General Rupsys presented with the Netherlands Royal Decoration ‘Commander in the Order of Orange-Nassau’
Excellent relationship between the Netherlands and Lithuania can be seen in more than cultural, economic, and historic ties. In an early morning on Lithuanian statehood day General Onno Eichelsheim, Commander of the Netherlands Armed Forces underscored that “the strongest bond that ties us together has always been deeply rooted in mutual respect and a commitment to protect what we value: our independence, our common welfare, and the rule of law”.
During the ceremony hosted by Ambassador Jack Twiss Quarles van Ufford General Valdemaras Rupsys, the Chief of Defence of the
Republic of Lithuania, was presented with the Netherlands Royal
Decoration ‘Commander in the Order of Orange-Nassau’ with swords. For
his unwavering dedication to peace and security in a #NATO
context, while being on the front line of today’s threats. As well as
being an exceptional host to the Dutch troops who are part of the
enhanced Forward Presence, the Royal Order was awarded in the name of
His Majesty, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and was read by
Defense Attaché of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Laine Den Hollander.
Created on 4 April
1892, the Order of Orange-Nassau is conferred on people who have made
a contribution of outstanding value to the community. Appointments as
Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau – the third class – are rare.
Recipients must have distinguished themselves by outstanding or
extremely important work or have rendered service of international or
even global importance.
