Last week, Vilnius hosted Baltic Pride 2025, a week that brought visibility to the LGBTQI+ community and opened space for dialogue. The Pride March through the city center marked an important moment, not just for those participating, but for all who believe in equality and human dignity.

The Netherlands has a strong tradition of standing up for LGBTQI+ rights, both at home and abroad. As part of our ongoing support, our Political-Military Advisor Hannah Pannwitz took part in the Pride March, joining colleagues from other embassies, international organisations and civil society.

In a time when the rights of LGBTQI+ individuals are still challenged in many parts of the world, events like Baltic Pride matter. They remind us that progress is not guaranteed and it requires continued attention, courage, and cooperation.

The march was one of many meaningful events held throughout the week in Vilnius, such as the conference ‘Pride & Protest: Safeguarding Liberal Democracy in Europe’, organised by the European Liberal Forum. Offering space for reflection and exchange, these events contribute in to strengthening liberal democracy, human rights, and freedom of assembly in Europe.

We look forward to continuing our close cooperation with Lithuania and other partners in promoting human rights and equality, here in the Baltic region and beyond.
