Yesterday, the new Dutch ambassador to Lithuania, Caecilia Wijgers, had the honor to present her credentials to H.E. President Gitanas Nausėda. She was accompanied by Defense Attaché Thijs Jansen and Political-Military Advisor Vincent van Roon.

When the ambassador arrived in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace she was invited to inspect the honor guard, and a military band played the anthems of the Netherlands and Lithuania. After this impressive ceremony she formally presented the president with the letter of credence from His Majesty King Willem-Alexander appointing her as ambassador to Lithuania. The president and the ambassador then had the opportunity to sit down and discuss the warm bilateral relationship.

The Netherlands and Lithuania are close NATO partners who stand together in defending Europe and in supporting Ukraine against Russia’s war of aggression. Our countries also have close economic ties, with further potential in areas like the defense industry, high-tech sectors, biotechnology, and tourism. This will be Ambassador Wijgers’ fourth ambassadorship, and she will apply her wealth of diplomatic experience to further strengthening the ties between our two countries.
