About the World Press Photo Exhibition 2026
The World Press Photo Exhibition 2026 showcases the stories that matter with award-winning photography from the 69th annual World Press Photo Contest. The winners are the best of the 57,376 photographs entered by 3,747 photographers from 141 countries, presenting the outstanding work of photojournalists and documentary photographers from across the globe. Amongst the winners are stories you will recognize, stories overlooked, broad perspectives, and intimate insider views, with themes that include conflict, crisis, resistance, resilience, and hidden traditions. Together, these projects form an urgent portrait of our world today.

The regional contest model, launched in 2021, supports a greater diversity of stories and storytellers from around the world, offering a more comprehensive global perspective. This year, 31 out of 42 winners are local to the region they have photographed. Founded in the Netherlands in 1955, World Press Photo is an independent non-profit organization that champions the power of photojournalism and documentary photography to deepen understanding, promote dialogue, and inspire action.

About Photojournalism: Past, Present and Future
Photojournalism: Past, Present and Future revisits the history of photography and explores the evolution of visual journalism as a language up to the present day. The lecture will present some trends in today’s journalism standards. In an age dominated by digital media and the threat of fake news, we will examine the pressing challenges and transformative opportunities reshaping the field today: from the vital need for diversity, representation and safety for journalists to groundbreaking narrative formats and the rise of constructive journalism. It will also include visual examples of award-winning works of photojournalism and documentary photography, followed by a guided tour of the 2026 World Press Photo Exhibition at the exhibition hall of Erasmus Huis.
