Workshop “Your Story in Focus” by Ebru Aydin
Following the opening of her photo exhibition “Labbayk: Here I Am,” sociologist and photographer Ebru Aydin led an interactive workshop titled “Your Story in Focus” on May 21, 2026, exploring visual storytelling and global Islamic perspectives.
The program brought together selected participants from prominent Indonesian Islamic organizations, including Eco Bhinneka Muhammadiyah, Gusdurian, KUPI/AMAN, INFID, PPIM UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Ma'arif Institute and the Nurcholis Madjid Society. The session served as a powerful platform for cross-cultural dialogue, exploring how images shape representation, identity, and the ways we perceive one another.
The workshop opened with a guided tour to the exhibition, where participants viewed the 15 portraits of Dutch Muslims who have performed the Hajj or Umrah. This was followed by an artist talk by Ebru, who shared her professional practice, her project background, and her journey of turning personal curiosity into visual storytelling. She emphasized that photography is not merely a tool to document reality, but also a medium to open meaningful dialogue.
After a lunch break, participants engaged in a hands-on creative session called ‘Making Your Own Image’. Working in pairs, they were given the opportunity to translate their personal insights into visual stories. Drawing from their varied backgrounds, the participants shared unique viewpoints on what Islam means in both their personal and collective lives.
The exhibition “Labbayk: Here I Am” runs until August 29, 2026 at the foyer of Erasmus Huis.
