Visit to Bogor to Deepen Cooperation in Education and Culture

The Dutch Embassy in Indonesia team, led by Ambassador Marc Gerritsen, recently visited Bogor — fondly known as the "City of Rain" — for a day filled with meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and cultural appreciation. The visit underscored the growing partnership between the Netherlands and Indonesia in key areas such as sustainability, education, and urban development.

The visit began at CIFOR-ICRAF, one of the world's leading research institutions on forestry and agroforestry. Discussions focused on biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable land use — central themes for both Indonesia and the Netherlands. In a symbolic gesture, Ambassador Marc planted a nutmeg tree, honoring Indonesia's natural heritage and the shared vision for forest regeneration and environmental stewardship.

The delegation continued to IPB University, a longstanding partner of Dutch academic institutions. In a meeting with Rector Arif Satria and university leadership, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing collaboration in agrifood systems, marine policy, and public health. Discussions also explored expanding alumni engagement and academic exchange with universities such as Wageningen University & Research and the University of Groningen.

The visit concluded with a tour of the historic Bogor Botanical Gardens, where the delegation appreciated the unique intersection of cultural heritage and biodiversity. A meeting with Bogor Mayor Dedie Rachim highlighted the city’s vision to become a center for research excellence and a model for green urban development.

The Embassy expressed its appreciation for Bogor’s warm hospitality and looks forward to continued collaboration in addressing shared challenges and opportunities.

Thank you, City of Rain, for the inspiring and heartfelt welcome!
