About Merebut Bali: Kolonialisme, Kekerasan, dan Perlawanan 1846–1950
A year after the proclamation of Indonesian independence, the Netherlands occupied Bali following the Denpasar Conference in 1946. Progressive Indonesian fighters led by figures like I Gusti Ngurah Rai confronted Dutch military authority supported by local aristocrats. The book, originally titled “De strijd om Bali: imperialisme, verzet en onafhankelijkheid 1846–1950”, is the story of the violent guerrilla war in Bali that erupted on the island after World War II. Based on over 120 oral interviews as well as extensive archival and field research, the book reveals a clear and nuanced portrayal of the brutal war to win and defend independence. The Indonesian translation is published by Marjin Kiri, an independent publisher of literature, history, and social studies.
