The opening ceremony on May 19, 2026, was officially inaugurated by Indonesia's Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., alongside the Director of Domestic Hajj Services of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Nurchalis, S.T., M.M. Hosted by the Acting Director of Erasmus Huis, Nassim Abba, the event opened with welcoming remarks from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Indonesia, Marc Gerritsen, and photographer Ebru Aydin. The presence of these prominent figures highlighted the strong diplomatic and cultural relationships between Indonesia and the Netherlands.

Stepping into the exhibition at the foyer, visitors are invited to see the diverse backgrounds and experiences of the Dutch Muslims who performed the Hajj and Umrah. The exhibition presents the portraits alongside photographs of Mecca and Medina, as well as a video of pilgrims performing Tawaf, the ritual of circling the Kaaba, from the current Hajj pilgrimage. There is also an intimate corner where visitors can sit and view photographs of Mecca and Medina through viewfinders, offering quiet, reflective glances into the sacred cities.

Through this visual storytelling, the exhibition offers an alternative perspective on Muslim identity, highlighting the pilgrimage as a source of inner strength and connection. As a Turkish-Dutch sociologist and photographer, Ebru Aydin combines her professional insight and personal experiences to challenge stereotypes and create new narratives about Muslims in society.
