About the Exhibition
Following the success of the Green Batik Design Challenge in November 2025, “Jejak Batik” exhibition showcases the ten selected batik works created during the program. The exhibition highlights the stories and values behind batik making, while conveying the program’s message on sustainability and innovation of the batik industry. Presented in conjunction with World Water Day on March 22, the exhibition aligns with this year’s theme, Water & Gender, highlighting the important connection between sustainable water management, gender equality and community participation. Women play a central role in Batik; the craftsmanship of batik painting has been passed down for generations, from mother to daughter, through the intricate canting technique that sustains this cultural heritage. At the same time, batik production relies heavily on water at almost every stage. These challenges highlight the urgency of introducing more sustainable water management practices within the sector. Through these two lenses, we invite you to explore the footprints of batik while also introducing the Green Batik Pekalongan initiative that promotes more sustainable batik practices.
