The Dutch Embassy in Indonesia proudly supported a landmark conference dedicated to environmental action and cross-traditional collaboration.

In the face of a growing climate crisis, faith-based initiatives across Indonesia—from Islam, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Confucian, and indigenous communities—are stepping up with powerful responses rooted in spiritual teachings and collective responsibility. Recognizing the importance of this interfaith momentum, the Dutch Embassy in Indonesia proudly supported a landmark conference dedicated to environmental action and cross-traditional collaboration.

Held at the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII), the International Conference on Religious Environmentalism in Action brought together diverse voices committed to protecting the one planet we all call home. The event opened with remarks from Chargé d’Affaires Adriaan Palm, reflecting the embassy's continued commitment to inclusive, values-driven climate solutions.

Underscoring the importance of the conference, two high-level Indonesian officials attended: Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar and Minister of Primary & Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti. Their presence highlighted national recognition of the growing intersection between religion and environmental stewardship.

The conference also spotlighted Religious Environmentalism Action (REACT)—a collaborative project between the Dutch Embassy and the Center for the Study of Islam and Society (PPIM). REACT focuses on policy advocacy and capacity-building, empowering young religious and community leaders with the tools, knowledge, and motivation to lead environmental initiatives within their communities.

As the global climate challenge intensifies, the event served as a reminder that action inspired by faith and shared values can unite diverse communities—and offer hope for a more sustainable future.
