Future Prospects: OECD Accession for Golden Indonesia 2045
What does Indonesia's future look like through the lens of OECD accession? On May 26 at Erasmus Huis, we got a compelling glimpse.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Indonesia and the OECD brought together government leaders, business representatives, international partners, and the next generation of change-makers for a landmark discussion: "Future Prospects: OECD Accession for Golden Indonesia 2045."
Here are the moments that stood out:
- Dr. Edi Pambudi, Deputy Minister for Coordination of International Economic Cooperation, delivered a clear-eyed assessment of Indonesia's progress in the accession process, the milestones reached and the bold reforms still ahead.
- Shinta Kamdani (CEO, Sintesa Group & Chairman, APINDO) and Ilham A. Habibie (President Commissioner, PT ILTHABI Rekatama) made a powerful case for why the private sector is not a bystander in this journey, it's a driving force.
- Ambassador of Chile Mario Ignacio Artaza shared an inspiring firsthand account of Chile's own accession path, the hurdles, the lessons, and the transformative gains that followed, particularly for younger generations.
- Massimo Geloso Grosso, Head of the OECD Jakarta Office, drew on a decade of on-the-ground experience to show how structural reforms in education and the informal economy can unlock a broader tax base and build a more resilient, inclusive Indonesia.
- Gita Kothari, OECD Director for Legal Affairs and Accession Coordinator, and Jochem Wiers, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the OECD, both reinforced a unifying message: lasting change demands a whole-of-society effort, government, private sector, civil society, and youth, moving together.
And perhaps the most energizing moment of the day? Watching students, young professionals, and emerging leaders ask sharp, thoughtful questions that pushed the conversation to new heights. The future was very much in the room.
The Netherlands stands firmly alongside Indonesia on this journey. The road to OECD membership is ambitious, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Thank you to every speaker, partner, and participant who made this such a meaningful day. Here's to what comes next!
