In June, an Indonesian delegation was in the Netherlands to join a five-day program focusing on smart and sustainable aviation. The delegation consisted of representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Transport, Angkasa Pura 1, AirNav, Garuda Indonesia, academic institutions (PPI Curug and Bandung Institute of Technology), the Center for Strategic Aviation Studies, as well as the Indonesian Embassy in the Hague.

The program was initiated by our Embassy and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Transport and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management, and organized in collaboration with the Netherlands Aerospace Group (NAG) and PSPS Business Abroad.

Indonesia and the Netherlands are both heading in the same direction toward greening the aviation industry. Targets are set to reduce emissions in the industry, with some measures already implemented, such as making airports greener, supporting the development of sustainable fuel, and developing new technology for aircraft. There are plenty of rooms for collaboration between the two countries. Therefore, this program was organized to generate collaboration leads between businesses, knowledge institutions, and government organizations, in line with the Joint Statement on Smart and Sustainable Transportation signed by both countries.

The program kicked off with a number of inspiring classes discussing the newest developments in the industry and exchanging sustainability policies between the two countries. Representatives from the Dutch government and companies (Conscious, To70, Deerns, ANSART, Aviavox, and Avion) shared their experience and outlook for the future. To observe real-life practices, the delegation also visited Schiphol International, NACO, Vanderlande, and Thales, focusing on airport development and innovation. A visit to the Netherlands Aerospace Center (NLR) focused on the national aerospace ecosystem, technology development, and R&D. A visit to LVNL (the Dutch air navigation service provider) was organized on the last day, centered on realizing more sustainable aviation through  more efficient air traffic management.

We look forward to more collaboration between Indonesian and Dutch partners in supporting a more sustainable aviation industry. Please do not hesitate to contact the Economic Department of the Embassy should you wish to explore more opportunities (JAK-EA@minbuza.nl).
