EU-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) - Indonesia
EU-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA)
In a significant moment for international trade and diplomacy, Indonesia and the European Union have officially concluded negotiations on the long-anticipated Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The milestone was jointly announced on 23 September 2025 in Bali by Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič.
This agreement marks a pivotal step forward in the growing relationship between Indonesia and the EU, setting the stage for deeper economic integration between two major global players — together representing a combined market of 735 million people.
The Indonesia–EU CEPA is poised to deliver wide-ranging benefits. It will boost business opportunities, strengthen supply chains, and drive sustainable growth. Importantly, the deal also supports strategic diversification, allowing both sides to reduce dependencies and build more resilient economies.
For the Netherlands, the agreement opens new doors for investment in key sectors such as electric vehicles, electronics, and pharmaceuticals — areas where Dutch expertise and innovation already play a strong role. The agreement is expected to enhance integration between European and Indonesian supply and value chains, creating shared opportunities for growth and development.
Beyond economic gains, the CEPA includes ambitious and binding commitments on trade and sustainable development. These provisions aim to safeguard human rights, uphold labour standards, and address climate change — reflecting a shared commitment to responsible and inclusive growth.
As Minister Hartarto and Commissioner Šefčovič stood side by side to announce the agreement, it was clear that this deal is more than just about trade. It is a strategic partnership — one that aligns economic ambitions with shared values for a more sustainable and prosperous future.
