Dutch and Indonesian Partners Take Off Toward Smarter, Greener Airports
It started with a shared ambition—to build the airports of the future. In May, that vision took its first real flight as a Dutch delegation of aviation experts landed in Indonesia for a week-long mission focused on innovation, sustainability, and partnership.
Representing seven pioneering companies—AviaVox, MEP Voice Communication Systems, NACO, Ooms PMB, Royal Schiphol Group, To70, and Vanderlande—alongside the Netherlands Aerospace Group, the team embarked on a journey under the Partners for International Business (PIB) program. Their goal: to explore how Dutch expertise can help shape Indonesia’s rapidly evolving airport sector.
The mission took off on May 19 with vibrant conversations and matchmaking sessions in Jakarta. Dutch and Indonesian stakeholders gathered around the same table to talk about airport operations, energy efficiency, and sustainability. As policy makers, planners, and engineers shared their visions, one thing became clear: both countries are ready to collaborate on the next generation of aviation infrastructure.
On May 20, the delegation visited Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Indonesia’s largest and busiest air hub. Walking through its cargo terminals and operational facilities, the Dutch team witnessed first-hand the scale and complexity of the airport’s daily rhythm.
Later, at the Jakarta Air Traffic Service Center, they observed the nerve center of Indonesian airspace, gaining insights into how air traffic is managed across the archipelago—and where Dutch innovations might support further modernization.
The following evening, May 21, the delegation sat down for dinner with Vice Governor of East Java, Emil Dardak. Over local cuisine and engaging conversation, he shared East Java’s aspirations for economic growth and airport expansion.
On the final day, May 22, the group visited Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo. There, they saw how the airport functions on the ground and heard detailed plans for its development. It was a fitting conclusion to a mission rooted in learning, connection, and forward-thinking.
Throughout the week, the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta and its partners—Indonesia’s Directorate-General of Civil Aviation, InJourney Airports / Angkasa Pura Indonesia, InJourney Aviation Services, and AirNav Indonesia—played a crucial role in making this mission a success.
This is just the beginning. With mutual respect and a shared commitment to innovation, the Netherlands and Indonesia are preparing for takeoff—toward a future where airports are not only more efficient, but smarter and more sustainable. We look forward to what lies ahead, together.
